Dr. Chris Maffett is a dedicated and compassionate dentist with a deep commitment to patient care. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina in 1994 and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine in 1999.

Following dental school, Dr. Maffett practiced in the Grand Strand area for four years, during which he participated in impactful medical mission trips to Honduras. These experiences not only broadened his perspective but also reinforced his dedication to providing exceptional care with a heart for helping others.

Drawn to Charleston since his dental school years, Dr. Maffett made James Island his home in 2003 and established his own dental practice. Over the past 21 years, he and his team have built a practice they are proud of, where each patient is valued as part of their extended family.

Dr. Maffett lives on James Island with his son, Harrison, and their boxer, Sophie. In his free time, he enjoys the Lowcountry lifestyle, from beach days and surfing to biking and the occasional round of golf.

Isetta began her dental career in 2014 after earning her degree in Health Science from Horry Georgetown in Myrtle Beach, SC. As a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) and a high achiever, she is constantly seeking ways to improve the patient experience at Natural Art Dentistry. Isetta’s commitment to excellence drives her to network and collaborate with dental teams across the Lowcountry, ensuring that she brings the latest insights and techniques to her work.

When she’s away from the office, Isetta enjoys crafting and spending quality time with her husband and her spirited four-year-old daughter, Brielle. Her dedication to both her family and profession makes her a valued and respected member of our team.

Alana Taylor, a Minnesota native, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene in 2010 and practiced in the upper Midwest for several years. Alana is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient care with a focus on holistic health, blending her knowledge of Western medicine with a passion for whole-body wellness to help patients achieve optimal oral and overall health.

Since moving to James Island in 2020, Alana has embraced the Lowcountry lifestyle. Her love for the outdoors keeps her active, and you can often find her snowboarding, exploring local farmers markets, or enjoying nature throughout the beautiful region.

Practice Manager/Patient Coordinator
Erin Palassis is a James Island native with a passion for patient care and dental practice management. After graduating with an Associate’s degree in International Business from Trident Technical College in 2002, Erin spent five years in sales before discovering her true calling in dentistry. She joined Dr. Maffett’s team in 2007 and has been dedicated to helping patients navigate and understand dental insurance ever since. Erin’s enthusiasm for building relationships with our family of patients shines through in her work.

As a standing member of the American Association of Dental Office Management (AADOM) since 2017, Erin is committed to continuous learning, regularly taking continuing education courses and networking with other practice administrators. Her goal is to provide the best possible patient experience while supporting her team every step of the way.

Erin lives on James Island with her son, Jayce. Outside of work, she enjoys live music, surfing, traveling, gardening, cheering on Sixers basketball, and spending quality time with her family.

Dental Assistant
Suzette Mumpower began her career in dentistry in 1984, receiving her dental assisting certification through hands-on training and extensive chairside experience. Originally from Florence, SC, Suzette moved to Charleston during high school and graduated from Fort Johnson. Over the decades, she has gained a wealth of knowledge working with various dentists and orthodontists, progressing into expanded duty assisting and continuously expanding her expertise. Suzette is passionate about helping her team and providing exceptional care to her patients.

Suzette lives on James Island, where she feels most at home by the ocean. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, cheering on Gamecock football, exploring the outdoors, and taking walks with her beloved furbaby, Ellis. Her love for music and the Lowcountry lifestyle makes every moment outside the office just as fulfilling as her time caring for patients.

Dental Assistant/Front Office Receptionist

Ashley Butler has been an invaluable part of Natural Art Dentistry since 2013, working alongside Dr. Maffett and developing a true passion for dentistry. Originally from Macon, GA, Ashley moved to the Lowcountry in her early teens and fell in love with the beach lifestyle. Chairside trained, she brings years of expertise and a deep commitment to patient care to our practice.

Ashley currently resides in Walterboro, where she enjoys life as a newlywed with her husband, two dogs, and her close-knit family. Known for her tech-savvy skills, she has also taken on the role of IT support for the office and serves as our DHEC and OSHA coordinator. When she’s not at work, Ashley loves spending time with friends, traveling, crafting, and creating memorable moments with her loved ones.
